Republican Party says January 6 Attack was a ‘Legitimate Political Discourse.’

In an unusual declaration, the G.O.P declared that the Jan. 6 attack where five people died and hundreds were injured as a “Legitimate Political Discourse.”

The Republican party attacked Ms. Cheney and Mr. Kinzinger for participating in the House investigation of the assault, saying they were participating in “persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” The resolution attacking them passed unanimously.

The Republican party received heavy criticism for supporting the January 6 attack where its far-right insurrectionists stormed the Capitol to invalidate the 2020 U.S election. The insurrectionists were encouraged by the losing Republican candidate, Donald Trump, who claimed that the election was fraudulent and refused to concede. Although Trump was impeached, the Republican Senators acquitted his impeachment.

On January 6, insurrectionists carried the Confederate battle flag into the halls of Congress, smeared feces on walls, stole property and intended to kill lawmakers, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who resisted pressure to refuse to certify electoral college results.

Former President Trump also made it clear that he intends to pardon the insurrectionists if he wins the election in 2024.

Meanwhile, Republican party senator Mitt Romney lashed out at his party and stated on Twitter, “Shame falls on a party that would censure persons of conscience, who seek truth in the face of vitriol. Honor attaches to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for seeking truth even when doing so comes at great personal cost.”
